Noida, 9th Oct: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday announced that the Noida International Airport at Jewar will be renamed Narendra Modi International Airport, Noida-Jewar, following approval by the state Cabinet.
Addressing the media, Adityanath said the Council of Ministers had expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the airport, describing it as a major gift to Uttar Pradesh. The Cabinet approved the proposal to rename the facility, the Chief Minister said.
Adityanath added that the airport was expected to become Uttar Pradesh’s largest airport and emerge as a major aviation hub in the country.
Prime Minister Modi inaugurated the airport on March 28, 2026. Its first flight landing took place on June 15, when an IndiGo aircraft arrived from Lucknow.
Airport Designed as Major Aviation Hub
The airport has been developed by Yamuna International Airport Private Limited, a subsidiary of Swiss firm Zurich Airport International AG, in association with Noida International Airport Limited, the implementing agency on behalf of the Uttar Pradesh government.
The first phase was built at an estimated cost of ₹11,282 crore, with an initial annual passenger-handling capacity of 1.2 crore. This capacity can be expanded to seven crore passengers annually over the coming years.
The facility features a 3,900-metre runway designed to accommodate wide-body aircraft, along with modern navigation systems. Its runway is equipped with an Instrument Landing System (ILS) at both ends, allowing aircraft to approach from either direction depending on wind conditions.
The airport is also being developed as a multimodal transport hub, with connectivity through road networks and other transport systems. It is expected to strengthen air connectivity across Uttar Pradesh and the wider National Capital Region.
