WASHINGTON – The Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal on Thursday condemned the attacks on airports in Saudi Arabia over the past few days, stated that targeting of civilian infrastructure is “unacceptable” and that New Delhi stands with the people and the government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Jaiswal in a statement said “India condemns the attacks over the past few days targeting Abha International Airport and King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, which have resulted in civilian deaths and injuries. The targeting of civilian infrastructure is completely unacceptable,”.
He expressed condolences to the families of those who have lost their loved ones in the attacks and wished speedy recovery for those injured.
“We wish speedy recovery for those injured. We express solidarity and stand with the people and government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia,” he added.
He noted that at least 3 people have been killed and 36 others injured in attacks on two international airports in Saudi Arabia, according to local media reports.
Indian Embassy in Riyadh issued an advisory, asked Indian nationals in Saudi Arabia to stay indoors and follow the instructions of local authorities.
“In view of the current situation, all Indian nationals in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia are advised to remain alert and vigilant, stay indoors as necessary, and follow the instructions issued by local authorities through official channels,” the Embassy said.
It advised all Indian nationals in Saudi “to refrain from circulating or reposting any videos or news related to the ongoing events”.
Iran-backed Houthi rebels of Yemen have claimed the responsibility behind the attacks.
The Houthis also said that they targeted King Khalid International Airport on Thursday, although Saudi Arabia is yet to confirm the strikes.
Saudi Arabia’s General Authority of Civil Aviation confirmed that Abha International Airport and King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh were targeted in separate attacks on October 6 and 7.
