Mumbai, 20th Oct: A phone call made by a cab driver proved to be a crucial breakthrough in the investigation into the alleged assassination attempt on Bollywood actor Tiger Shroff, helping police trace and detain three suspects who had reportedly fled Mumbai after the attack.
According to sources, the suspects booked a cab to travel to Surat following the incident. During the investigation, the driver called the phone number used to make the booking, providing police with a key lead.
Using technical surveillance and analysis, investigators traced the driver, who told them that he had dropped all three suspects at Surat railway station.
Police then examined train schedules, reservation charts and technical inputs from the station. Their investigation indicated that the suspects were travelling towards Rajasthan on the Pune–Jaipur Express.
The Mumbai Crime Branch contacted Rajasthan Police, leading to a joint operation in which the three suspects were detained at Kota railway station on Monday.
Joint Operation Leads to Detention in Kota
The operation involved the Rajasthan Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) and Kota City Police. Investigators are expected to seek custody of the accused to question them about their alleged links with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, the source of the weapons used in the attack, and the people who may have provided them with shelter and financial assistance.
Police are also investigating the circumstances surrounding the firing and the possible involvement of other individuals. The alleged links of the suspects and the motive behind the attack have yet to be established.
Attack Outside Juhu Football Club
The incident took place on Sunday evening when Tiger Shroff was leaving a football club in Mumbai’s Juhu area in a car.
Video footage of the incident showed gunshots being fired at close range at the actor’s vehicle. The 36-year-old actor escaped relatively unharmed, while his driver sustained injuries.
The firing prompted an investigation to identify the alleged shooters, trace their movements after the incident and determine who might have been involved in planning or supporting the attack.
Police sources have suggested that the incident could be linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. However, this remains under investigation, and officials have not established the motive.
Tiger Shroff Given Police Protection
Following the attack, Tiger Shroff was provided police protection. Police sources said the actor did not have security cover before the incident.
Investigators are examining whether the absence of security made him an easier target. They are also exploring whether the attack may have been intended to spread fear or extort money, based on patterns associated with the gang’s past criminal activities.
Officials have stressed that the motive remains unconfirmed.
The Mumbai Police Protection Branch has deployed bodyguards for the actor. The local police station has also assigned a police officer and several personnel to provide security. Authorities have not clarified the specific category of protection granted to him.
The detention of the three suspects in Kota marks an important development in the case. Their questioning is expected to focus on the alleged attack, the weapons involved, their possible connections and any assistance they may have received before or after the incident.
