New Delhi, 23rd Oct: Delhi Police has informed the Saket Court that it has initiated the process to seek the extradition of Russian national Victoria Basu in a case involving a child custody dispute. The request has been routed through the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and the Indian Embassy in Moscow.

In a status report submitted before Judicial Magistrate First Class Deepakshi Rana, police sought additional time for further action. The report stated that a formal extradition request had been sent to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) for execution through the MEA and the Indian Embassy in Moscow.

Police also informed the court that an Interpol Red Corner Notice had been issued against Victoria Basu, identified as the main accused in the case. Documents submitted by the complainant, Saikat Basu, are being examined to determine the next course of action.

An FIR was registered at Defence Colony Police Station in 2025 following a complaint by Saikat, who married Victoria in 2017. Their child was born on October 29, 2020.

According to the complaint, Victoria allegedly left the house with her mother on March 13, 2023, without informing Saikat, and abandoned the child. He further alleged that she later filed a petition seeking exclusive custody of the child.

The complaint also alleges that Victoria left India with the minor child last year after obtaining a joint custody order from the Supreme Court. The custody dispute remains pending before the Saket District Court.
