Jagdalpur, 23rd Oct: President Droupadi Murmu on Friday attended a public programme marking Bastar Dussehra in Jagdalpur, Chhattisgarh, where she highlighted the region’s cultural traditions and urged people to learn from the nature-conscious lifestyle of tribal communities.
Addressing the gathering, the President described Bastar Dussehra as a symbol of Chhattisgarh’s cultural pride and collective faith. She said the festival’s unique rituals bring different sections of society together and strengthen their sense of community and belonging.
Murmu also spoke about the region’s progress following years of challenges posed by Naxalism. She said coordinated efforts by the Central and state governments had helped the region move forward, creating opportunities for development.
The President welcomed efforts to provide financial support to tribal entrepreneurs and connect them with markets. She expressed confidence that such initiatives would contribute to equitable and inclusive growth and support the vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047.
Emphasising environmental protection, Murmu said tribal communities traditionally worship nature and recognise its life-sustaining importance. She called for valuable lessons to be drawn from their nature-nurturing way of life and stressed the need to preserve the environment alongside development.
Before the public programme, the President interacted with local Manjhi and Chalki representatives during the Muriya Darbar. She also visited the Rangoli and Dussehra exhibition in Jagdalpur.
Earlier, Murmu offered prayers and performed puja at the Maa Danteshwari Temple, an important religious site in the region.
