Lucknow, 29th Oct: The UP MLC polls have delivered six seats to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and three to the Samajwadi Party (SP), with counting continuing in the remaining constituencies, according to the results detailed in the available report.

The BJP won the Agra Graduates’, Bareilly-Moradabad Teachers’, Lucknow Teachers’, Meerut Graduates’, Meerut Teachers’ and Gorakhpur-Faizabad Teachers’ constituencies. The SP secured the Allahabad-Jhansi Graduates’, Varanasi Teachers’ and Agra-Aligarh Teachers’ seats.

In Bareilly-Moradabad, BJP candidate Hari Singh Dhillon defeated SP nominee Danish Akhtar by 17,676 votes. Dhillon received 21,672 votes against Akhtar’s 3,996 after five rounds of counting. In Lucknow, BJP candidate Umesh Dwivedi won by 6,992 votes, polling 13,179 votes against SP candidate Sushil Kumar’s 8,371.

The BJP also retained the Gorakhpur-Faizabad Teachers’ seat, where Dhruv Tripathi defeated Independent candidate Rajiv Yadav by 307 votes. Tripathi secured 14,887 votes, while Yadav received 14,580.

Yadav alleged voter manipulation and claimed that around 1,000 votes had been stolen. He said he would approach the Election Commission and the court, and demanded a forensic examination of 1,612 votes counted in the fourth round. The administration maintained that counting was being conducted according to the rules.

The SP registered wins in three constituencies. Mansingh Yadav won the Allahabad-Jhansi Graduates’ seat, Lal Bihari Yadav secured the Varanasi Teachers’ constituency, and Akash Agrawal defeated BJP candidate Hari Kishore Tiwari in the Agra-Aligarh Teachers’ constituency.

SP president Akhilesh Yadav also raised concerns over the alleged treatment of Agrawal, sharing a video in which the candidate was seen wearing a torn kurta. His supporters alleged that Agrawal had been assaulted. The claims added to tensions surrounding the counting process.

Voting for the 11 Legislative Council seats—five graduates’ and six teachers’ constituencies—was held on Friday, with counting beginning at 8 am on Tuesday. The contest is being closely watched ahead of the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.
