New Delhi, 23rd June: The Digital India BHASHINI Division (DIBD) under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and the Assam Innovation & Startup Foundation (AISF) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote language technology, Generative AI solutions and multilingual digital innovation across Assam.
The collaboration aims to provide wider access to digital services in Indian languages and strengthen Assam’s startup and innovation ecosystem through AI-powered language technologies.
Under the BHASHINI Rajyam initiative, the partnership will integrate BHASHINI’s language translation APIs into AISF’s platforms and services, improve translation capabilities in Assamese and other regional languages, and develop voice-enabled applications.
The initiative will also encourage startups, entrepreneurs, researchers and academic institutions to use BHASHINI’s language technology stack to create multilingual AI solutions tailored to local needs.
DIBD CEO Amitabh Nag said the partnership would ensure that language does not become a barrier in India’s digital transformation journey and would help build inclusive, accessible and impactful AI-driven solutions.
BHASHINI currently powers over 800 government websites, processes more than 15 million AI inferences daily, and supports 36 Indian text languages, 23 Indian voice languages and 35 international languages.
