Mehsana, 25th April: A man related to a BJP candidate was killed in a violent attack in Mehsana on Friday night, triggering tension ahead of the upcoming municipal corporation elections.
The victim, identified as Miten Chaudhary, was travelling in a car along with Dhimant Chaudhary when their vehicle was intercepted by a group of unidentified assailants. The attackers allegedly dragged them out and assaulted them using sharp weapons, sticks and iron pipes.
Miten sustained critical injuries and later died during treatment at a hospital. Dhimant Chaudhary, who is related to a Congress candidate, also suffered serious injuries and is undergoing treatment.
Police officials and Crime Branch teams rushed to the spot soon after the incident and secured the area. Security has been heightened in the city to prevent any escalation.
Investigators are examining CCTV footage from the area and analysing call detail records to identify the attackers and track their movements. The motive behind the attack is yet to be ascertained.
Officials said efforts are underway to trace those involved and assured that the accused will be apprehended soon.
