Mumbai, 12th July: A bomb threat targeting Mumbai’s iconic Taj Hotel triggered a major security operation in the early hours of Sunday, with police and bomb disposal teams conducting an extensive search before declaring the threat a hoax.

According to police, the alert was issued after an anonymous caller contacted the Navi Mumbai Police Control Room around 12:13 a.m., claiming that “Dawood has planted a bomb at the Taj Hotel.”

The information was immediately passed on to the Mumbai Police Control Room, following which teams from the Colaba Police, Crime Branch and the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) rushed to the hotel.

Security personnel carried out a thorough inspection of the hotel’s lobby, banquet halls, restaurants, swimming pool, parking area and other sensitive locations.

After an exhaustive search, officials confirmed that no explosive device or suspicious object was found and declared the threat a hoax.

Police said the threatening call originated from Turbhe in Navi Mumbai, and efforts are underway to identify and arrest the caller with the assistance of the Turbhe Police.

The Taj Mahal Palace Hotel, located in south Mumbai’s Colaba area, was one of the main targets during the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks in 2008, in which 166 people were killed and hundreds injured.

The incident comes a day after a similar hoax bomb threat targeted Delhi’s Red Fort, where security agencies also conducted extensive searches before declaring the alert false. Police are investigating whether the two incidents are linked.
