Bomb Threat Message Found on IndiGo Flight After Kolkata Landing

Passengers evacuated from Phuket–Kolkata flight as security teams inspect the aircraft; the incident follows a separate bomb scare at the airport a day earlier.

Kolkata, 24th Oct: Passengers aboard an IndiGo flight from Phuket were evacuated after a threatening message was discovered inside the aircraft shortly after it landed at Kolkata’s Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport on Saturday.

IndiGo flight 6E1494, operated by an Airbus A320neo, arrived at 2.05 pm. The aircraft was around 80% occupied, according to officials.

The threat came to light when cabin crew members spotted a message scrawled on the mirror inside the aircraft’s washroom. Following the discovery, passengers were evacuated and transferred to an IndiGo bus while security personnel initiated precautionary checks.

The aircraft was moved to an isolation bay for a comprehensive inspection to determine whether the threat was credible.

Passengers Wait on Tarmac During Inspection
Security teams searched the aircraft as part of the precautionary operation. Passengers remained on the airport tarmac for more than two hours before being allowed to enter the terminal at around 4.30 pm.

Officials had not disclosed whether the message had yielded any investigative leads or whether the person responsible had been identified.

The circumstances surrounding the threat, including its motive, remained unclear.

Second Bomb Scare at Kolkata Airport in Two Days
The incident occurred a day after a separate bomb scare at Kolkata airport on Friday morning.

In that case, a handwritten note on tissue paper warning of a bomb near a boarding gate was found inside a toilet. Security agencies subsequently searched the airport premises, although flight operations remained unaffected.

The back-to-back incidents have raised fresh concerns over airport security. While Friday’s threat involved a message found inside the terminal, the latest one was discovered aboard an arriving passenger aircraft.

Investigators are examining the latest incident to establish the circumstances behind the message and identify those responsible.
