Patna, 24th Aug: A remark by Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) Exam Controller Rajesh Kumar during a press conference has triggered a political and social media controversy amid ongoing protests by students in Patna.
Responding to a question about the answer sheet of the third-ranked candidate in the 70th BPSC examination, Kumar advised those making allegations to approach the court and referred to a Hindi proverb: “When an elephant moves in the market, a thousand dogs bark.”
The remark drew sharp criticism on social media, with users alleging that the officer had compared protesting students to dogs.
Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav subsequently visited the Gardanibagh protest site and cited the statement while demanding an apology from the BPSC official.
Kumar later issued a clarification, saying the proverb had been “twisted and presented out of context” on social media. He said he had no intention of hurting the sentiments of any individual or group.
The controversy comes as job aspirants continue to raise various demands concerning the BPSC examination process. The protests have drawn increasing political attention, with opposition leaders backing the students.
The incident has added to the wider debate over examination transparency and the handling of grievances raised by competitive-exam aspirants in Bihar.
