CEC Gyanesh Kumar Begins Three-Day Visit to Bhutan
India-Bhutan electoral cooperation and Bhutan’s National Voters’ Day celebration in focus
- Chief Election Commissioner Shri Gyanesh Kumar is visiting Bhutan from 14 to 16 September 2026.
- He will meet His Majesty the King of Bhutan in Thimphu on 14 September.
- Shri Gyanesh Kumar will be the Chief Guest at Bhutan’s National Voters’ Day celebration in Paro on 15 September.
- He will meet Bhutanese Prime Minister Dasho Tshering Tobgay and senior civil servants on 16 September.

New Delhi, 14th Sept: Chief Election Commissioner of India Shri Gyanesh Kumar is undertaking a three-day visit to the Kingdom of Bhutan from 14 to 16 September 2026, with India-Bhutan electoral cooperation and institutional engagement high on the agenda.
During his visit, Shri Gyanesh Kumar will meet His Majesty the King of Bhutan in Thimphu on 14 September.
A key engagement of the visit will be the celebration of Bhutan’s National Voters’ Day at the Jigme Singye Wangchuck School of Law in Paro on 15 September. The CEC will attend the event as the Chief Guest.
On 16 September, Shri Gyanesh Kumar will call on Dasho Tshering Tobgay, Prime Minister of Bhutan, in Thimphu. He will also interact with senior civil servants of Bhutan.
The visit is expected to further strengthen the close institutional cooperation between the Election Commission of India and the Election Commission of Bhutan, building on their continued engagement.
