Barrackpore, 27th April: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday expressed strong confidence that the BJP would form the next government in West Bengal, declaring that he would return to the state after May 4 for the swearing-in ceremony.
Addressing a major rally in Barrackpore on the final day of campaigning for the second and concluding phase of the Assembly elections, Modi said the political atmosphere in Bengal clearly signalled change.
He launched a sharp attack on the ruling All India Trinamool Congress, accusing it of fostering syndicate raj, political violence, economic stagnation and governance failure.
The Prime Minister said West Bengal’s progress was critical to India’s larger development vision and stressed that the growth of eastern India would be central to the country’s future.
Invoking Barrackpore’s historical role in India’s First War of Independence in 1857, Modi said the region was once again poised to become a symbol of transformation.
Drawing comparisons with BJP’s electoral gains in neighbouring states, he asserted that the lotus would bloom in Bengal as well.
Modi also accused the TMC of abandoning its founding ideals and alleged that criminal syndicates had expanded while industries continued to decline.
He further charged the ruling party with relying on intimidation, threats and divisive politics rather than development-focused governance.
West Bengal heads into the decisive second phase of polling on April 29, with results scheduled for May 4.
