New Delhi, 31st July: President Droupadi Murmu on Friday said India has the potential to become a global powerhouse in grassroots innovation, stressing that locally developed solutions can effectively address societal challenges by combining experience, scientific thinking, creativity and social responsibility.
The President made the remarks while interacting with a group of grassroots innovators associated with the Atal Innovation Mission at the Rashtrapati Bhavan Cultural Centre in New Delhi. She also visited an exhibition showcasing their innovations and interacted with the innovators behind the projects.
Murmu said grassroots innovations are particularly suited to society’s needs because they emerge from a combination of local experience, scientific thinking and individual creativity, backed by a sense of social responsibility.
She noted that innovators across the country are developing solutions to local problems that also have wider national relevance.
The President highlighted innovations showcased at the exhibition in areas including waste-to-wealth, energy conservation, agriculture, environmental protection, preservation of art, and solutions aimed at improving convenience and accessibility for women and persons with disabilities.
Murmu stressed that ideas alone cannot bring societal transformation and said innovators require an ecosystem that provides guidance, resources and appropriate platforms to convert ideas into practical solutions.
She appreciated the role of Atal Community Innovation Centres, saying they are providing grassroots innovators with technical support and guidance while helping them transform innovative ideas into sustainable enterprises.
Linking innovation with India’s development ambitions, the President said the dream of Viksit Bharat would be realised when citizens adopt an innovation-oriented mindset to find solutions to everyday problems.
She said cooperation among institutions and citizens was strengthening India’s culture of innovation and expressed confidence that its benefits would eventually reach wider sections of society.
The President also praised innovators who continued pursuing their ideas despite limited resources, uncertainty and recurring challenges.
Murmu urged them to continuously refine their innovations, build stronger partnerships with research institutions, industries and fellow innovators, and work towards scaling their solutions to reach a larger population.
