New Delhi, 19th Oct: India on Monday rejected references to Jammu and Kashmir in resolutions adopted at the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Council of Foreign Ministers meeting in Baghdad, accusing Pakistan of orchestrating politically motivated propaganda against the country.
In a statement, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) described the references as “malicious, biased, and false” and criticised the OIC for allowing itself to be used to advance what it called Pakistan’s agenda.
“We are disappointed that the OIC has once again allowed itself to be misused by Pakistan for its bigoted agenda,” the ministry said.
The MEA asserted that the OIC had no authority to comment on matters falling within India’s domestic jurisdiction. It reiterated that the Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh are integral and inalienable parts of the country.
The ministry said that since the abrogation of Article 370, Jammu and Kashmir had witnessed economic development and benefits for residents through infrastructure expansion, tourism and improved connectivity.
Article 370, which had granted special status to the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir, was abrogated in August 2019. The former state was subsequently reorganised into the Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
Contrasting the situation with developments in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK), the MEA accused Pakistan of using violence and repression against civilian protesters. It alleged that scores of people, including women and children, had been killed and that restrictions on media coverage had failed to conceal alleged human rights violations.
“No amount of media blackout has been able to hide these grave violations of human rights,” the statement said.
The ministry added that the outstanding issues related to Jammu and Kashmir were Pakistan vacating areas under what India describes as illegal and forcible occupation and ending its support for cross-border terrorism.
The MEA also criticised other references in the OIC resolutions, including those concerning Islamophobia, calling them an attempt to divert international attention from Pakistan’s record on minority persecution, sectarian violence, governance failures and political instability.
Questioning the credibility of the organisation, the ministry said the OIC’s repeated endorsement of what it termed malicious narratives raised concerns about its integrity. It called on the organisation’s members to consider reforms.
