GOTHENBURG, 18th May: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday called India a “trusted and reliable economic partner” while addressing the European Round Table for Industry in Gothenburg.
The interaction was attended by Ulf Kristersson, Ursula von der Leyen, senior European industry leaders and representatives of major Indian and European companies.
In his keynote address, Modi highlighted the growing strategic convergence between India and Europe and stressed the importance of trusted partnerships amid global economic uncertainty.
The Prime Minister welcomed the successful conclusion of negotiations for the India-European Union Free Trade Agreement and described it as a transformative partnership that would unlock opportunities in trade, manufacturing, technology, services and resilient supply chains.
He also underlined the importance of the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor, saying the initiative would strengthen connectivity and add new value to India-Europe business cooperation.
Modi said India had emerged as one of the world’s most attractive destinations for investment, innovation and manufacturing due to rapid economic growth, digital public infrastructure, ease of doing business reforms and expanding industrial capabilities.
Reiterating the vision of “Design for India, Make in India and Export from India”, the Prime Minister invited European companies to deepen their engagement with India.
He called for stronger India-Europe cooperation in building resilient and diversified global supply chains.
The Prime Minister highlighted India’s large-scale investments in transport, logistics, renewable energy, green hydrogen and nuclear power and invited European industries to collaborate in sectors such as artificial intelligence, semiconductors, deep-tech manufacturing, telecom, mobility, healthcare and urban infrastructure.
Modi also stressed the importance of talent mobility, education and skills partnerships, saying India’s young workforce would play a major role in future global growth.
He proposed holding an annual India-Europe CEOs Round Table and suggested the creation of an India Desk at the European Round Table for Industry to strengthen institutional engagement.
The meeting was hosted by Volvo Group and focused on enhancing India-Europe economic and industrial cooperation.
