Indian Delegation Joins Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference
Harivansh-led delegation participates in 69th CPC in Cape Town; India-South Africa parliamentary ties in focus

Cape Town, 16th Sept: An Indian Parliamentary Delegation led by Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh is participating in the 69th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference (CPC) being held in Cape Town, South Africa, from September 12 to 19, 2026. The participation is focused on parliamentary cooperation and engagement among Commonwealth legislatures.
The Indian delegation comprises C. Sadanandan Master, Dr. D. Purandeswari, Vishnu Datt Sharma, Sudheer Gupta, Krishna Prasad Tenneti and Rachna Banerjee, along with Rajya Sabha Secretary General P. C. Mody. The conference is also being attended by 32 Presiding Officers and 18 Secretaries from Indian State and Union Territory legislatures who are members of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association.
Harivansh holds meetings with South African leaders
After arriving in Cape Town, Harivansh held bilateral meetings with Angela Thokozile Didiza, Speaker of the National Assembly; Poobalan Govender, Deputy Chairperson of the National Council of Provinces; and Annelie Lotriet, Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly.
The meetings provided an opportunity to exchange views on matters of mutual parliamentary interest and parliamentary relations between India and South Africa.
India participates in CPA Executive Committee
Dr. D. Purandeswari, Lok Sabha MP, participated in the meeting of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association Executive Committee, where she presented India’s views and perspectives on matters concerning the association.
The conference will feature six main workshops covering contemporary issues relevant to Commonwealth legislatures. Indian parliamentarians and representatives from State and UT legislatures will participate in workshops, plenary sessions and General Assembly deliberations.
Harivansh to address General Assembly
Harivansh is scheduled to address the General Assembly of the 69th CPC on “New Leadership Opportunities for the Commonwealth: Parliamentary Action to Strengthen Democracy and International Law.”
The Indian delegation’s participation is aimed at strengthening parliamentary and legislative cooperation within the Commonwealth and furthering parliamentary engagement between India and South Africa. The delegation will continue participating in the conference’s General Assembly and workshops during the remaining sessions.
