Srinagar, 18th July: Internet services were suspended in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district after a civilian was killed and two others were injured in a shooting incident in the Gundoh area of Bhaderwah subdivision, officials said.

The deceased has been identified as 30-year-old Arif Hussain. According to local residents, Hussain was killed while two others sustained injuries in the incident, triggering protests by locals demanding action against those responsible.

A doctor at Government Medical College, Doda, confirmed that Hussain was brought to the hospital with gunshot injuries and was declared dead on arrival.

Authorities have not yet issued an official statement explaining the circumstances surrounding the shooting, and the investigation is ongoing.

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti described the reports as disturbing and called for an impartial probe into the incident. She urged the administration to establish the facts and ensure accountability.

The victim’s relatives also demanded a fair investigation, saying the truth behind the killing must be brought to light. They appealed to the district administration and police to conduct a transparent inquiry and ensure justice.

The shooting has heightened tensions in the area, prompting authorities to suspend internet services across Doda district as a precautionary measure. Officials are yet to disclose further details on the incident.
