J&K Police Reshuffle: 100 Senior Officers Transferred

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha orders a major administrative shake-up, with 28 IPS officers among those transferred and several districts getting new police chiefs.

Srinagar, 10th Oct: Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Friday ordered a major reshuffle in the police department, transferring 100 senior officers, including 28 Indian Police Service (IPS) officers and several district police chiefs.

The reshuffle also includes officers from the Jammu and Kashmir Police Service, with changes across district policing, armed police, technical services, traffic police and other units.

Ganderbal, Kupwara, Bandipora, Ramban and Poonch districts have been assigned new police chiefs. The police districts of Sopore, Handwara and Awantipora have also received new heads as part of the administrative changes.

Key Appointments in the Reshuffle
IPS officer Danesh Rana, a 1996-batch officer who was awaiting posting, has been appointed Managing Director of the Jammu and Kashmir Police Housing Corporation.

Garib Dass, who was serving as Director of the Sher-e-Kashmir Police Academy in Udhampur, has been transferred and appointed Additional Director General of Home Guards, Civil Defence and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF). Haseeb Mughal will take over as the academy’s new director.

Abdul Jabbar has been appointed Inspector General of Police (Armed Police), Jammu, while Shahid Mehraj Rather will serve as Inspector General of Police, Technical Services, Jammu and Kashmir.

Swarn Singh Kotwali has been posted as Deputy Inspector General of Police for the Udhampur-Reasi Range.

In another key change, Aijaz Ahmad Bhat, who was serving as Senior Superintendent of Police (Traffic), Srinagar City, has been appointed Commandant of the 23rd Armed Police Battalion. Bisma Qazi will take charge as the new Traffic Police chief of Srinagar City.

Railway Police and Security Wing Also Affected
The reshuffle extends to officers serving in the Railway Police and the Security Wing, indicating changes across multiple branches of the Jammu and Kashmir Police.

The transfers form part of a broad administrative exercise affecting senior officers and leadership positions across the Union Territory.
