New Delhi, 13th Aug: Parliament’s Monsoon Session concluded on Thursday amid continued confrontation between the government and the opposition over student protests linked to the NEET paper leak controversy.
The Lok Sabha was adjourned sine die within minutes of convening on the final day of the session, while the Rajya Sabha witnessed noisy scenes as opposition members continued their protests.
The session, which began on July 20, saw repeated disruptions in both Houses. Opposition parties initially raised the issues of the alleged NEET paper leak and alleged theft of donations at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya.
In the later phase of the session, the opposition focused on demanding a discussion over the police action against students protesting the NEET paper leak. It also sought the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Parliament and demanded statements from them on the issue.
The Centre’s efforts to facilitate a debate in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday failed after the opposition rejected Home Minister Amit Shah’s proposal for a two-day discussion covering the NEET paper leak and related issues, followed by his reply.
With no agreement reached between the treasury and opposition benches, the Monsoon Session concluded amid continued disruptions, bringing the proceedings to an end without resolving the political deadlock over the student protest issue.
