Manish Chadha Takes Charge as DG Naval Operations
Communication and Electronic Warfare specialist brings over 35 years of operational, command and strategic experience
- Vice Admiral Manish Chadha assumed charge as Director General Naval Operations on August 3.
- He has commanded INS Veer, INS Kirpan and INS Mysore during his naval career.
- Chadha previously served as Commandant of the Indian Naval Academy.
- He was awarded the AVSM in 2025 and VSM in 2017.

New Delhi, 3rd Aug: Vice Admiral Manish Chadha, AVSM, VSM, assumed charge as the Director General Naval Operations (DGNO) on Monday, bringing more than 35 years of experience across command, operational, instructional and staff assignments in the Indian Navy.
An alumnus of the 78th course of the National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla, Vice Admiral Chadha was commissioned into the Indian Navy on July 1, 1991. He is a Communication and Electronic Warfare Specialist.
He attended the 61st Defence Services Staff College course at Wellington and completed the Higher Command Course at the National Defence University in Washington, USA.
Over Three Decades of Naval Service
During his career, Vice Admiral Chadha has held several important appointments at sea and ashore. His command assignments include Coast Guard Interceptor Boat CGS-05 and Indian Naval Ships Veer, Kirpan and Mysore.
He also served as Naval Attaché at the Embassy of India in Moscow.
At Naval Headquarters, Chadha handled several key projects, including initiatives related to Very Low Frequency (VLF) and satellite communications. He also served as Director of the International Fleet Review 2016.
After promotion to Flag Rank, he served as Flag Officer Commanding Gujarat Naval Area, Assistant Chief of Personnel (Administration and Civilian), Flag Officer Commanding Maharashtra Naval Area and Assistant Chief of Personnel (Human Resource Development).
On elevation to Vice Admiral, Chadha was appointed Commandant of the Indian Naval Academy, where he was responsible for training and shaping future naval leadership.
For his distinguished service, Vice Admiral Chadha was conferred the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal in 2025 and the Vishisht Seva Medal in 2017.
