MP Becomes First State to Include Hindu Members in Waqf Board

Bhopal, 6th July: The Madhya Pradesh government has reconstituted the State Waqf Board under the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025, becoming the first state in the country to constitute a new board under the amended law and include two Hindu members.

According to a gazette notification issued on Sunday, Sanwar Patel has been appointed Chairman of the 10-member Madhya Pradesh Waqf Board. Manoj Malpani and Animesh Bhargava have been nominated as Hindu members.

Officials said the board has been constituted by the state government under the provisions of the amended Waqf Act, 1995, as part of the implementation of the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025.

The Waqf Board is a statutory body responsible for managing and protecting Waqf properties in the state. Its functions include maintaining records of Waqf assets, monitoring their use and income, preventing encroachments, and ensuring that the properties are used for religious, educational and social welfare purposes.

Officials said Madhya Pradesh is the first state to reorganise its Waqf Board under the amended legislation.
