Nine Newly Elected Members Take Oath in Rajya Sabha

New Delhi, 21st July: Rajya Sabha Chairman C.P. Radhakrishnan on Monday administered the oath or affirmation to nine newly elected and re-elected Members of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha Chamber at the commencement of the 271st Session of the Upper House.

The members who took oath were Dr. Mukeshbhai J. Rathwa, Pawan Khera, Mahesh Kewat, James Pangsang Kongkal Sangma, Khiangte Laltluangkima, Dr. Satish Poonia, Prakash Chik Baraik, Sushmita Dev and Sukhendu Sekhar Ray.

Among them, five members took the oath in Hindi, two in English and two in Bengali.

The newly sworn-in members represent Gujarat, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Rajasthan and West Bengal, with three members elected from West Bengal and one member each from the remaining six states.

The oath-taking ceremony marked the formal induction of the members into the Upper House as Parliament commenced its Monsoon Session with a packed legislative agenda.
