New Delhi, 25th April: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has completed the post-poll scrutiny of Form 17A and related documents for Phase-I elections in West Bengal and the Assembly polls in Tamil Nadu, with no recommendation for repoll in either state.
The scrutiny, conducted on April 24, covered all 152 Assembly constituencies in West Bengal and all 234 constituencies in Tamil Nadu in the presence of General Observers and candidates or their representatives.
In West Bengal, more than 600 candidates or their representatives participated in the process, while all 1,478 candidates were informed in advance. The review covered 44,376 polling stations, with no irregularities warranting a repoll.
Similarly, in Tamil Nadu, scrutiny involved 1,825 participants, with prior intimation to all 4,023 candidates. The exercise examined records from 75,064 polling stations, again with no repoll recommended.
The ECI said the entire process was videographed to ensure transparency, and all documents, including Form 17A registers, were re-sealed after verification.
Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and VVPATs have been securely stored in strong rooms under strict surveillance. Security arrangements include a double-lock system, round-the-clock two-tier security, and CCTV monitoring of access points.
Officials have been directed to conduct regular inspections of strong rooms, while candidates’ representatives are allowed to monitor the premises continuously.
The Commission said the measures are aimed at ensuring transparency, maintaining electoral integrity, and enabling timely detection of any irregularities.
