PM Dhan-Dhaanya Yojana Shows Strong Progress

New Delhi, 1st Sept: Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare and Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan reviewed the progress of the Prime Minister Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana (PM-DDKY) at Krishi Bhawan, New Delhi, with emphasis on outcome-based monitoring and ensuring that scheme interventions deliver tangible benefits to farmers.

The review covered district-wise performance, District Action Plans, field monitoring, financial progress, capacity building, scheme convergence and mechanisms for tracking beneficiary-level outcomes across the 100 identified Dhan-Dhaanya districts.

District performance improves
PM-DDKY targets 100 districts identified on the basis of low agricultural productivity, low cropping intensity and low agricultural credit disbursement.

The scheme focuses on six areas — increasing agricultural productivity, promoting crop diversification and sustainable practices, expanding post-harvest storage, improving irrigation infrastructure, enhancing access to agricultural credit, and strengthening governance and service delivery.

According to the dashboard, the average score across the 100 districts improved from 22.54 in April 2026 to 38.85 in July 2026, registering an increase of 16.31 points.

Agricultural productivity rose from 2.53 to 6.70, while crop diversification and sustainable agricultural practices improved from 5.60 to 8.65 during the period. Scores for post-harvest storage increased from 2.61 to 3.82 and irrigation infrastructure from 1.65 to 4.20.

Access to agricultural credit improved from 2.81 to 5.59, while governance and service delivery rose from 7.94 to 10.33.

All 100 districts submit action plans
The review noted that all 100 districts have uploaded their District Action Plans, with feedback provided on each of them.

All 100 districts have also submitted data against output indicators up to July 2026 and outcome-indicator data for 2025-26.

The scheme uses 121 indicators, comprising 74 output and 47 outcome indicators, to track annual targets. District performance on output indicators is ranked monthly through the PM-DDKY dashboard.

The scheme is being implemented through the convergence of 36 Central schemes involving 11 Ministries and Departments, along with state schemes and private-sector participation.

Focus shifts towards measurable outcomes
The review stressed the need to move beyond monitoring activities and expenditure and focus on the actual outcomes and benefits reaching farmers.

The Financial Progress Module of the PM-DDKY dashboard was implemented on August 31, while a Beneficiary Progress Module is targeted for implementation by mid-September.

The new monitoring mechanism will consolidate interventions and investments from Central and state schemes and other sources, helping assess resources deployed, activities undertaken, farmers benefited and outcomes achieved.

Nearly 7 lakh farmers trained
Capacity building remains a key component of the scheme. Between January and July 2026, 6,90,530 farmers and 88,961 extension workers were trained in various skills.

During the same period, 2,20,683 farmers and extension workers also received training in natural farming.

Krishi Vigyan Kendras are being used as technical partners for capacity development and field-level interventions.

Scheme approaches first anniversary
PM-DDKY was approved by the Union Cabinet on July 16, 2025, and launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 11, 2025. Its dashboard was activated in October 2025, with monthly output-indicator rankings beginning in November.

As the scheme approaches its first anniversary in October 2026, the government is planning a programme to showcase the progress and performance of the 100 Dhan-Dhaanya districts.

The review also considered convening a meeting of the National Executive Committee under the Agriculture Minister and strengthening farmer participation through the proposed nomination of two progressive farmers to each District Dhan-Dhaanya Committee.
