New Delhi, 18th May: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday expressed grief over the loss of lives in the road accident in Lakhimpur Kheri and announced financial assistance for the victims’ families from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund.

In a post on X, the Prime Minister conveyed condolences to the families who lost their loved ones in the tragic mishap and prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured.

“Deeply pained to hear about a mishap in Lakhimpur Kheri, Uttar Pradesh. My condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. May the injured recover at the earliest,” Modi said.

The Prime Minister also announced an ex-gratia payment of ₹2 lakh from PMNRF to the next of kin of each deceased victim.

Those injured in the accident will receive financial assistance of ₹50,000 each.

The accident occurred earlier in the day when a speeding truck collided head-on with a passenger van on National Highway 730 in the Isanagar police station area of Lakhimpur Kheri district.

Several people were killed and injured in the crash, prompting rescue and relief operations by local authorities.
