New Delhi, 2nd June: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday expressed deep grief over the tragic bus accident in Gujarat’s Surat district that claimed several lives and left many others injured.

In a message posted on X, the Prime Minister conveyed his condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured in the mishap.

“Deeply pained to hear about a mishap in Surat district, Gujarat. My condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. May the injured recover at the earliest. Rescue operations are underway and authorities are providing all possible assistance at the accident site,” Modi said.

The Prime Minister also announced financial assistance from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) for the victims and their families.

According to the announcement, the next of kin of each deceased victim will receive an ex-gratia amount of ₹2 lakh, while those injured in the accident will be provided ₹50,000 each.

“An ex-gratia of ₹2 lakh from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of each deceased. The injured would be given ₹50,000,” the Prime Minister stated.

The announcement came hours after a Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation bus caught fire following a collision with another government bus near Uva village in Surat district. At least six people were killed and more than 20 others sustained injuries in the accident.

Rescue and relief operations were launched immediately after the incident, with fire department personnel, police teams and local residents working together to evacuate passengers and provide medical assistance to the injured.

Authorities said all possible assistance is being extended to those affected, while investigations into the cause of the accident are underway.

The Prime Minister’s Office said rescue operations are continuing and the administration remains focused on ensuring treatment and support for the victims and their families.
