Prime Minister becomes first Indian PM to attend Seychelles' Independence Day as Guest of Honour

Victoria, 29th June: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday attended the 50th Anniversary celebrations of the Independence of Seychelles as the Guest of Honour, becoming the first Indian Prime Minister to participate in the island nation’s Independence Day celebrations.

The visit came at the invitation of Seychelles President Dr. Patrick Herminie and coincided with the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Seychelles, underscoring the longstanding partnership between the two countries.

To mark the twin milestones, contingents of the Assam Rifles, the Indian Navy, and an Indian Navy Marching Band participated in the national parade, reflecting the close defence and security cooperation between India and Seychelles.

As part of the celebrations, Indian Naval Ships INS Tarkash and INS Ikshak docked at Port Victoria, continuing the long-standing maritime engagement between the two nations.

The Prime Minister’s participation highlighted India’s commitment to deepening its strategic partnership with Seychelles and reaffirmed the strong historical, diplomatic and people-to-people ties shared by the two countries.
