New Delhi, 1st May: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday extended heartfelt greetings to the nation on the occasion of Buddha Purnima, reaffirming India’s commitment to the timeless ideals of Lord Buddha.

In his message, Modi said Buddha’s teachings continue to inspire peace, compassion, goodwill and social harmony.

The Prime Minister urged citizens to renew their commitment to adopting Lord Buddha’s life values, emphasizing the importance of joy and togetherness in society.

Sharing a Sanskrit Subhashitam, Modi highlighted the philosophical essence of Buddha’s Eightfold Path — right view, right intention and right conduct — as the route to freedom from suffering and attainment of supreme peace.

He stressed that Lord Buddha’s wisdom remains deeply relevant in addressing both personal and societal challenges.

Buddha Purnima marks the birth, enlightenment and Mahaparinirvana of Gautama Buddha and is observed globally as a symbol of spiritual awakening and universal compassion.

The Prime Minister’s message reinforces India’s broader cultural and spiritual commitment to Buddhist philosophy as a pathway to peaceful coexistence.

Celebrations across the country include prayers, meditation, social service initiatives and commemorative events.
