New Delhi, 30th June: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday paid tribute to the brave tribal warriors who fought against British colonial rule on the occasion of Hul Divas, remembering their courage and sacrifice in defending the dignity and honour of tribal communities.
In a post on X, the Prime Minister paid homage to legendary Santhal leaders Sido-Kanhu, Chand-Bhairav, and Phulo-Jhano, along with all the brave men and women who stood firmly against the injustice of foreign rule during the historic tribal uprising.
Describing Hul Divas as a powerful symbol of the indomitable spirit of India’s tribal society, Modi said the occasion occupies a place of pride in the country’s history.
He said the struggle and sacrifice of the tribal heroes in safeguarding the dignity, honour and rights of tribal communities would continue to inspire generations of Indians and infuse new energy into the nation’s collective spirit.
Hul Divas is observed every year to commemorate the Santhal Hul (rebellion) of 1855, one of India’s earliest organised tribal uprisings against British colonial rule and exploitative practices.
