Mansa, 18th Oct: Punjab BJP chief Kewal Singh Dhillon has urged people across the state to wear black turbans and dupattas and carry black flags to protest the murder of anti-drug activist Parvinder Singh Jhota, demanding a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the case.

Jhota was shot dead on October 13 in Mansa by a medical store owner after confronting him over the alleged sale of drugs. The activist was known for raising concerns about the illegal sale of addictive substances at chemist shops. Before his death, he was seen questioning the shop owner during a live session on Facebook.

Joining the ongoing protest in Mansa on Saturday, Dhillon met Jhota’s parents and expressed condolences. He called for a statewide symbolic protest until justice is delivered, describing the activist as a warrior who fought to protect Punjab’s youth from drug addiction.

Dhillon alleged that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government had failed to fulfil its promise of eliminating drugs within three months of coming to power. He claimed that the administration had also failed to protect people speaking out against drug trafficking.

The BJP leader said an independent investigation was necessary to establish accountability and restore public confidence. He added that he had written to the Punjab Governor on the first day of the controversy, seeking a CBI inquiry into Jhota’s killing.

Dhillon also referred to the case of Gulzar Singh of Toor Vanjara, alleging that he died by suicide after speaking out against drugs. Citing the murders of singer Sidhu Moosewala and kabaddi player Sandeep Nangal Ambian, he claimed that their families were still awaiting justice.

He further claimed that the Union government had taken serious note of the matter and that Union Home Minister Amit Shah had sought explanations from the Punjab government in three cases, including Jhota’s murder.

Assuring the bereaved family of the BJP’s support, Dhillon said the party would stand by them in their pursuit of justice. The proposed black-turban and black-dupatta campaign aims to turn the demand for a CBI investigation into a statewide protest over drug-related violence and law and order in Punjab.
