New Delhi, 28th Oct: Rajya Sabha Chairman C. P. Radhakrishnan hosted a luncheon at the Parliament of India in New Delhi on Tuesday for presiding officers and leaders of delegations from BRICS member and partner countries attending the 12th BRICS Parliamentary Forum.

The gathering was attended by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Union Ministers, Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh, parliamentary presiding officers from BRICS and partner countries, Secretaries-General of both Houses and other distinguished delegates.

BRICS Emerges as a Key Platform for Global Cooperation
Welcoming the delegates, Radhakrishnan described the Indian Parliament as a historic institution at the heart of the country’s parliamentary democracy. He highlighted India’s long democratic tradition, referring to ancient democratic practices in Vaishali and the kudavolai system used during the Chola period.

He said BRICS had evolved into a vital pillar of global cooperation, bringing together countries with diverse cultures, rich histories and dynamic economies. According to him, the grouping shares a commitment to building a balanced, inclusive and prosperous world order.

Radhakrishnan added that discussions at the 12th BRICS Parliamentary Forum reflected the determination of member and partner nations to address global challenges through dialogue, solidarity and mutual trust.

Focus on Innovation and Shared Solutions
Referring to the vision outlined at the BRICS Summit in September 2026, the Rajya Sabha Chairman noted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s emphasis on BRICS countries emerging as important centres of global innovation and solutions.

He expressed confidence that the parliamentary forum would strengthen these efforts and create fresh opportunities for innovation across member and partner countries.

Radhakrishnan also highlighted the importance of informal engagement among leaders, saying that shared meals and cultural exchanges help build personal relationships beyond formal discussions on policy and governance.

Indian Hospitality Welcomes Global Delegates
Emphasising the cultural significance of hosting international guests, Radhakrishnan described the luncheon as an expression of warmth and mutual respect. He hoped the delegates would carry fond memories of Indian hospitality, the country’s cuisine and the friendships developed during their visit.

The event formed part of the wider engagement surrounding the 12th BRICS Parliamentary Forum, which brought together parliamentary leaders to discuss cooperation and shared global priorities.
