RS Condoles Loss of Lives in Rain-Related Disasters Across India

New Delhi, 23rd July: Rajya Sabha Chairman C.P. Radhakrishnan on Thursday expressed heartfelt condolences on behalf of the House to the victims of heavy rains and related natural disasters that have claimed lives and caused widespread devastation across several parts of the country during June and July 2026.

Making a reference in the House, the Chairman said that heavy rainfall, floods, lightning strikes and landslides had resulted in the loss of several lives and affected thousands of people, particularly in Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, Kerala, Mizoram, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

He noted that the calamities had also caused extensive damage to property, crops and public infrastructure, while severely impacting the flora and fauna of the affected regions.

Radhakrishnan said the respective state governments, with the support of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), were carrying out rescue and relief operations to assist those affected.

Describing the loss of precious lives and injuries as “painful and unfortunate,” the Chairman said the House joined him in expressing heartfelt condolences and sympathy to the bereaved families. He also prayed for the speedy recovery and rehabilitation of the injured and all those impacted by the disasters.

The Chairman then requested Members of the Rajya Sabha to rise in their places and observe silence as a mark of respect to the memory of those who lost their lives in the natural calamities.
