New Delhi, 20th April: The Supreme Court of India has dismissed a review plea filed by activist Umar Khalid challenging the denial of bail in the 2020 Delhi riots conspiracy case.

A bench comprising Justices Aravind Kumar and N. V. Anjaria said it found no grounds to revisit its January 5, 2026 judgment.

“Having gone through the review petition… we do not find any good ground and reason to review the judgment,” the court said in its April 16 order, dismissing the plea.

The bench also rejected Khalid’s request for an oral hearing of the review petition.

The court noted that there were reasonable grounds to believe the allegations levelled against Khalid in connection with the conspiracy behind the February 2020 riots.

The riots in northeast Delhi in 2020, which erupted during protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) and the National Register of Citizens (NRC), left 53 people dead and over 700 injured.

The Delhi Police had arrested 18 individuals in the conspiracy case, of whom 11 have secured bail so far.

On January 5, the Supreme Court had denied bail to Umar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam, while granting relief to five others, observing that all accused did not stand on the same footing.
