Mumbai, 9th May: Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia and Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday inaugurated the renovated Andheri Railway Station Post Office as a future-ready postal service hub under India Post’s flagship Jan Sewa Connect initiative.
Originally established in 1932-33, the Andheri RS Post Office has been transformed into a modern, technology-enabled and customer-centric facility as part of the Department of Posts’ infrastructure modernisation programme.
The renovation project was carried out in partnership with the School of Planning and Architecture.
Officials said the Andheri RS Post Office is among 40 selected post offices across 17 states under the Jan Sewa Connect Proof-of-Concept initiative. It is the first post office in Maharashtra and the second in the country to be inaugurated under the project.
The upgraded facility now features modern interiors, digital integration, enhanced customer amenities, improved service delivery systems and strengthened branding infrastructure.
During the event, the dignitaries also released a special commemorative postal cover to mark the inauguration.
Addressing the gathering, Scindia said the initiative reflects the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to build modern and citizen-centric postal infrastructure across the country.
Fadnavis highlighted the role of India Post in ensuring last-mile connectivity and delivering essential services to citizens.
India Post currently operates a network of more than 1.65 lakh post offices nationwide and recorded a 16 per cent growth in gross postal revenue during 2025-26, officials said.
The Department of Posts has proposed the upgradation of around 2,000 post offices across Maharashtra under the Jan Sewa Connect initiative.
Senior officials, including Chief Postmaster General Amitabh Singh, along with local public representatives, were also present at the event.
