New Delhi, 17th Oct: Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal on Saturday hit back at Defence Minister Rajnath Singh over his allegation that the Congress and its allies were seeking “regime change” along the lines of Bangladesh, asserting that it was the people who wanted a change of government.
In a post on X, Sibal rejected Singh’s charge and said the government’s time was up. Referring to the anti-corruption protests that helped bring the BJP to power, the Independent MP accused the ruling establishment of embracing corruption, capturing institutions and manipulating voter lists.
Sibal’s remarks came a day after Singh criticised the Congress and its allies over protests in the national capital against alleged electoral irregularities. Addressing a press conference in Lucknow on Friday, Singh alleged that opposition parties and their supporting organisations were using young people to fuel political confrontation and spread anarchy.
Singh said democratic rights did not give anyone the licence to create disorder or undermine the credibility of constitutional institutions. He further alleged that the youth were being used as pawns in what he described as the politics of anarchy.
The exchange comes amid a political dispute over allegations of electoral irregularities and the role of protests in challenging the government and constitutional institutions.
