Snakebite Claims Lives of Two Siblings in Himachal’s Mandi
9-year-old girl and her 6-year-old brother die after suspected snakebite at their home in Sehli village

Mandi, 14th Sept: A tragic snakebite incident in Sehli village of Kotli area in Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi district claimed the lives of two young siblings from the same family.
The deceased have been identified as 9-year-old Kavya and her 6-year-old younger brother Naksh. The incident has left the family devastated and triggered grief across the village and surrounding areas.
According to the information available, the children were playing at home after dinner on Friday night and went to sleep in their room at around 9:30 pm. At around 2:30 am, Kavya woke up and complained of severe stomach pain. Shortly afterwards, Naksh also reported intense abdominal pain.
As the condition of both children deteriorated, their family members attended to them. During this time, a large black snake was spotted near the main entrance of the house, leading the family to suspect that the children had been bitten.
The siblings were immediately taken to the Zonal Hospital in Mandi. Given their critical condition, doctors referred them to Lal Bahadur Shastri Government Medical College and Hospital in Nerchowk. However, doctors declared both children dead upon arrival. They were reportedly already dead before reaching the hospital.
Police received information about the incident from Nerchowk Medical College at around 7:26 am on September 12. The bodies were taken into custody and post-mortem examinations were conducted.
The medical examination indicated that the deaths were caused by the spread of snake venom in the bodies. Necessary viscera and other samples have been sent to a laboratory for further examination.
Mandi Superintendent of Police Vinod Kumar said police have initiated action as per procedure. Following the post-mortem examination, the bodies were handed over to the family.
The incident comes days after a separate snakebite case was reported from Uttar Pradesh, where a venomous snake reportedly bit a mother and her son while they were sleeping, resulting in the son’s death.
