Telangana SIR: 45.54 Lakh Electors Cleared After Hearings

Hyderabad, 30th Sept: Telangana’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls has entered its final phase, with 45,54,236 electors cleared for inclusion in the final rolls after hearings, according to the latest figures reported by election authorities.
The SIR exercise began in Telangana on June 25, 2026. The state had 3,38,26,448 registered electors when the enumeration process began.
During the draft-roll exercise, 73,39,235 electors, or about 21.70 per cent of the electorate, were placed in the Absent, Shifted, Dead or Duplicate (ASDD) category. Their names were excluded from the draft roll subject to claims, objections and verification.
As of September 28, authorities had conducted 58,97,432 hearings, following which 45,54,236 electors were found eligible for inclusion in the final rolls.
Over 92 lakh notices generated
Authorities have also been issuing notices in cases involving logical discrepancies and no-mapping issues.
Of the 92,88,181 notices required to be generated, 92,88,180 had been generated by September 28. Of these, 87,85,739 had been delivered, while 5,02,441 remained pending, according to the latest figures.
Electors whose cases remain unresolved can continue to participate in the claims, objections and verification process within the revised schedule.
While concerns have been raised over a large number of electors potentially being left out of the final roll, the current figures do not establish that nearly 47 lakh electors will ultimately be excluded. The final electoral roll is yet to be published, and the claims, objections and verification process remains underway.
Revanth Reddy calls for ‘SIR Go Back’
Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has stepped up his opposition to the revision exercise and called for a nationwide “SIR Go Back” campaign.
Speaking at a conclave in New Delhi, Reddy invoked the historical “Simon Go Back” slogan while urging opposition to the SIR process.
“It is straightforward. In 1929, the slogan ‘Simon Go Back’ was raised. Today, it is SIR. Go Back, SIR Go Back,” Reddy said.
Reddy alleged that the Election Commission was being used to remove genuine voters opposed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. These are allegations by the Telangana Chief Minister, and the Election Commission has not been shown in the cited material as having endorsed or accepted them.
The Telangana government has separately said that eligible voters’ rights must be protected during the revision and that the voting right is fundamental to democracy.
Revised deadline extends verification process
The Election Commission has extended the Telangana SIR schedule by three weeks. The revision was extended after requests from the state government and the Chief Electoral Officer.
Under the revised schedule, claims and objections can be filed until October 7, while disposal of claims, objections and notices will continue until November 5. The final electoral rolls are scheduled to be published on November 9, 2026.
The extended timeline provides election officials additional time to complete notice delivery, hearings and verification before final publication.
