Bhopal, 21st May: The death case of Twisha Sharma has taken a dramatic turn as allegations and counter-allegations between the two families intensified following controversial public remarks by retired judge Giribala Singh and the emergence of an alleged audio clip linked to the case.
Twisha, 33, was found dead at her marital home in Bhopal on May 12. Her husband Samarth Singh, a lawyer, remains absconding after a district court rejected his anticipatory bail plea.
Police have registered a case related to dowry harassment and abetment to suicide, while Twisha’s family has demanded a CBI probe and a second post-mortem examination at AIIMS Delhi.
On May 18, Giribala Singh addressed a press conference in Bhopal where she questioned Twisha’s personality, upbringing and conduct after marriage.
The retired judge claimed there was a “vast difference” between the two families and alleged that Twisha’s traditional behaviour after marriage was “an act”.
She further alleged that Twisha had travelled to Delhi multiple times after marriage and returned “like a different person every time”.
Giribala Singh also publicly claimed that Twisha had undergone an abortion “of her own choice” and was undergoing psychiatric treatment and counselling.
During the interaction, she questioned whether a husband automatically becomes an accused in every suicide case and also criticised Twisha’s father.
A day later, in an interview with NDTV, Giribala Singh escalated the controversy further by raising allegations regarding Twisha’s finances and personal relationships.
She claimed Twisha had been given ₹7-8 lakh after marriage and questioned how the money was spent within a few months.
According to her, car keys and house keys were allegedly recovered from Twisha’s belongings after her death, prompting calls for further investigation.
In another controversial claim, Giribala Singh alleged that a “fourth person” was on Twisha’s mind on the night of the incident.
She also claimed Twisha had once confessed to the family that she had “deceived” them and “done something wrong”.
The controversy intensified further on May 20 after an alleged audio clip surfaced online, reportedly containing a conversation between Giribala Singh and Twisha’s brother Harshit Sharma, who is identified as Major Harshit Sharma.
According to claims surrounding the clip, questions were raised about Twisha’s personal relationships and character.
The leaked recording triggered outrage after alleged remarks comparing Twisha to a prostitute were reported from the conversation.
Twisha’s family has strongly objected to the remarks and accused the accused family of attempting to malign her image publicly.
The case has now evolved into a high-profile legal and public battle, with mounting pressure for an independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding Twisha Sharma’s death.
