Vishvajit Sahay Takes Charge as Defence Finance Secretary

Senior IDAS officer brings over 30 years of strategic financial and administrative experience

New Delhi, 1st May: Senior Indian Defence Accounts Service officer Vishvajit Sahay has officially assumed charge as Secretary (Defence Finance) in the Ministry of Defence.

A 1990-batch IDAS officer, Sahay previously served as Controller General of Defence Accounts (CGDA) and brings more than three decades of experience in defence finance, budgeting and public administration.

An alumnus of St. Stephen’s College, University of Delhi, and a law graduate, Sahay has held several high-profile financial leadership roles across the Government of India.

His past assignments include Additional Secretary and Financial Adviser in the Department of Science and Technology, Joint Secretary in the Department of Heavy Industries, Finance Manager in the Defence Ministry’s Acquisition Wing and Director in the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

Within the Defence Accounts Department, he has also served in critical positions such as Principal Controller of Defence Accounts (Pensions), Joint CGDA and Special CGDA.

Officials said his appointment is expected to significantly enhance financial management efficiency, strategic fiscal planning and institutional decision-making within India’s defence establishment.

Sahay has also represented India at prestigious international policy and security forums, including programs at the University of Cambridge and the George C. Marshall European Centre for Security Studies.
