New Delhi, 8th Oct: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday marked 25 years of serving as the head of a government, thanking the people of India for what he described as their continuous trust and reaffirming his commitment to building a developed India by 2047.
Addressing the ‘Viksit Bharat Sankalp Sabha – Seva Jyoti Yatra’ at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in New Delhi, Modi said the milestone was the result of the people’s blessings and dedicated his journey to the citizens of the country.
Modi recalled that he took oath as Gujarat Chief Minister on October 7, 2001, and said he had never imagined that his public life would reach such a milestone.
He said the people remained his greatest source of strength and described public service as an opportunity to serve the country. He also thanked the BJP, the NDA and those who believe in democracy.
“Today, whatever I am, the biggest contribution is of the people,” Modi said, adding that he considered the people to be a form of God.
The Prime Minister described 25 years of public trust and experience as his biggest capital, while stressing that the experience belonged to the country and could benefit every citizen.
‘I have lived for a mission, not ambition’
Reflecting on his political journey, Modi said he had always considered himself a learner and had focused more on a mission than personal ambition.
He said every phase of his journey had taught him something.
“Those who made me win taught me humility. Those who brought me down taught me to stand again. Those who supported me showed me the power of trust,” he said.
He added that those who opposed him helped him understand the strength of democracy, while crises tested his patience and achievements gave him the ability to pursue larger goals.
PM Modi cited the Chandrayaan mission as a lesson in overcoming failure and the COVID-19 pandemic as a lesson in collective consciousness. He also said his experiences with the media, both positive and difficult, had encouraged him to keep moving forward.
He said villages and poor families had taught him that limited resources should not restrict the size of one’s dreams or the strength of one’s determination.
‘We will do it’
The Prime Minister said the 25-year milestone should not be treated merely as a moment of remembrance but as an opportunity to renew national commitments.
He repeatedly invoked the phrase “We will do it”, linking it to the country’s long-term goals.
Among the objectives he outlined were:
– Building a developed India by 2047.
– Making India the world’s third-largest economy.
– Creating a self-reliant India.
– Hosting the Olympics.
– Expanding India’s presence in space.
PM Modi said the confidence and energy behind these goals could propel the country to new heights.
‘Karma is my dharma’
PM Modi said the central purpose of his life had been selfless service to the nation.
“For me, karma is everything. Karma is my dharma,” he said, invoking the message of the Bhagavad Gita.
He said “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas” had remained the foundation of his approach to governance.
Reflecting on his transition from Gujarat to the national stage, Modi recalled that when he first entered Gujarat’s administration, he had limited knowledge of the system but relied heavily on the strength of the people.
He said involving people in decision-making, policy formulation and implementation helped produce results in Gujarat.
When he arrived in Delhi, Modi said India was facing significant challenges and there was widespread concern about the economy. He said his approach was to work with people and restore confidence through collective effort.
He pointed to the growth of domestic manufacturing, solar power and agriculture as examples of the changes he said India had witnessed.
‘This is not a time to rest’
Modi also linked the country’s future ambitions with its civilisational heritage, saying India had historically contributed knowledge and values to the world.
He called for India’s progress in technology, sports and industry to be matched by greater achievements in areas such as aviation and advanced manufacturing.
The Prime Minister said fulfilling these goals would require forward-looking policies and sustained hard work.
“This is not a time to rest,” he said, calling for the country to move ahead with greater thought, effort and dedication.
He urged young Indians to view the present period as a historic opportunity and called for collective efforts to realise the goal of Viksit Bharat by 2047.
