Nashik/Mumbai, 20th April: A local court in Nashik on Monday declined to grant interim protection from arrest to Nida Khan, an accused in the sexual harassment and religious coercion case at the Nashik unit of Tata Consultancy Services, and directed the police to file their response by April 27.
Additional Sessions Judge KG Joshi did not pass any order on Khan’s request for interim relief and scheduled the next hearing on her anticipatory bail plea for April 27.
The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Nashik Police has launched a search operation across multiple locations in Maharashtra to trace Khan, who is currently absconding.
Khan had approached the court seeking anticipatory bail and interim protection, citing her two-month pregnancy.
The case involves allegations of sexual harassment, coercion, and attempts at forced religious practices at the company’s Nashik unit. According to FIRs, Khan allegedly pressured employees through WhatsApp groups to follow certain religious practices, including prayer and dietary changes.
Some complainants have also alleged mental harassment and coercion linked to religious conformity.
So far, eight individuals, including a female operations manager, have been arrested in connection with nine FIRs registered in the case.
Khan has been charged under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), as well as under sections of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. The defence, however, has contested the applicability of the SC/ST Act.
In a related development, two accused — Raza Rafiq Memon and Shafi Bikhan Sheikh — have been remanded to 14-day judicial custody.
TCS reiterated its zero-tolerance policy towards harassment and coercion, stating that employees named in the case have been suspended and the company is cooperating with the investigation.
