New Delhi, 27th April: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will lead the Indian delegation to the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Defence Ministers’ Meeting scheduled to be held in Bishkek on April 28.

The high-level meeting will bring together defence ministers of SCO member nations to deliberate on pressing regional and international security challenges, including counter-terrorism, defence cooperation and peace initiatives.

This year’s summit assumes added importance amid prevailing geopolitical instability, particularly due to tensions in West Asia, with member states expected to discuss strategies to minimise the broader regional security impact.

Rajnath Singh is expected to reiterate India’s firm commitment to global peace, strategic stability and its longstanding policy of zero tolerance towards terrorism and extremism.

On the sidelines of the summit, the Defence Minister is also likely to hold bilateral meetings with counterparts from participating countries to strengthen strategic and defence partnerships.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, established in 2001, includes India, China, Russia, Pakistan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Belarus.

India became a full member of the SCO in 2017 and has since played an active role in regional security cooperation and multilateral diplomatic engagement.

The Bishkek meeting is expected to further shape defence coordination among member states at a time of evolving global security dynamics.
