New Delhi, 27th April: Balbir Singh Seechewal has said that only former AAP leader Raghav Chadha can explain his decision to leave the Aam Aadmi Party and merge with the BJP along with six other Rajya Sabha MPs.

Reacting to the dramatic political shift, Seechewal said the party had elevated these leaders to Parliament, and it was up to them to justify why they chose to leave.

He indicated that the developments came as a surprise to many within the party, noting that the resignations became publicly clear only after media reports surfaced.

Despite concerns over political fallout, Seechewal downplayed speculation that the Rajya Sabha defections would significantly weaken AAP in Punjab, where the party currently holds a commanding majority.

He acknowledged that upcoming electoral calculations may influence individual political decisions but maintained that the broader party structure remains intact.

Seechewal also revealed that Chadha had previously sought private discussions during Parliament sessions, though he said he was unaware of Chadha’s political intentions at the time.

The comments underscore the growing internal strain within AAP following one of its largest parliamentary setbacks since its formation.

The defection of seven MPs has intensified political uncertainty around the party’s future strategy, particularly in Punjab, where elections are due next year.
