New Delhi, 20th Oct: Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in Vijayadashami celebrations at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan on Tuesday, highlighting Lord Ram’s ideals of truth, compassion, equality and public service. He described the festival as a reminder of the enduring victory of good over evil and called on citizens to uphold these values in national life.
Extending festive greetings, Modi said Vijayadashami was much more than a religious celebration for the country.
“For us, this is not merely a festival; this is the life energy of India,” the Prime Minister said, noting that Ramlila performances across villages and cities keep Lord Ram’s ideals alive and reinforce the triumph of righteousness over falsehood.
Lord Ram’s Ideals for Society and Governance
PM Modi said Lord Ram’s legacy extends beyond his victory over Ravana, offering enduring lessons in morality, compassion and social harmony.
“Lord Ram has given us such ideals which are incomparable in the history of humanity,” he said.
Recalling Lord Ram’s hardships during exile, the Prime Minister highlighted his commitment to truth and righteousness even in difficult circumstances. He referred to Lord Ram’s interactions with Nishadraj and his acceptance of offerings from Shabari as examples of compassion, equality and respect for all.
Modi also invoked the concept of Ramrajya, describing it as a model of governance where justice and equal opportunities are available to everyone and authority is exercised for public welfare.
He urged public representatives and administrators to place citizens at the centre of governance and prioritise the welfare of disadvantaged sections.
“We have to keep the service of the poor and the deprived paramount,” he said.
Calls for Self-Reliance and Public Participation
The Prime Minister drew lessons in self-reliance from Lord Ram’s journey to Lanka, saying collective participation and resourcefulness can help overcome seemingly impossible challenges.
He urged citizens to apply these principles towards achieving the goals of a developed and self-reliant Bharat. Modi said difficulties should not deter people from pursuing their objectives through hard work, determination and collective effort.
He also highlighted efforts to preserve India’s cultural heritage, stating that more than 650 ancient idols had been repatriated over the past 12 years. He pointed to the growing international recognition of Indian heritage sites and the inscription of Deepavali on UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage list in 2025.
PM Modi Urges Unity and a ‘Nation First’ Approach
Invoking the spirit of Vijayadashami, Modi called on political parties and national institutions to work together in the national interest. He referred to the Vedic mantra “Samano Mantrah Samitih Samani” to underline the importance of unity and shared purpose.
The Prime Minister urged citizens to adopt a ‘Nation First’ approach and stand against forces that, in his words, harm national honour, divide society or promote hatred towards Indian culture.
“When we stand with truth and humanity, then in the end, victory is ours,” he said.
Concluding his address, Modi recalled the resolutions associated with the Pran Pratishtha ceremony at the Ram temple in Ayodhya. He expressed confidence that the vision of “Ram Se Rashtra” and “Dev Se Desh” would be fulfilled, ending his remarks with chants of “Jai Siya Ram” and “Bharat Mata Ki Jai”.
