Panaji, 27th April: Widespread outrage has swept across Goa after derogatory social media posts targeting Hindu deities triggered strong protests from the Hindu community, raising concerns over religious sensitivity and communal harmony.
Large groups of protesters gathered outside multiple police stations demanding immediate action against unidentified individuals accused of sharing offensive content that deeply hurt religious sentiments.
Community leaders condemned the posts as deliberate attempts to insult Hindu beliefs and disturb Goa’s long-standing social and religious balance.
Following mounting public pressure, Goa Police registered an FIR and launched a formal investigation to trace those responsible for circulating the objectionable material.
Authorities have also increased surveillance of social media platforms to monitor and prevent the spread of inflammatory or communal content.
Protesters have called for stringent legal action against offenders and stronger regulations to prevent misuse of digital platforms for spreading religious hatred.
Despite the anger, demonstrations remained largely peaceful, with appeals from community representatives for lawful justice and maintenance of public order.
Goa, historically known for its multicultural and religious coexistence, now faces renewed calls for preserving communal harmony amid growing concerns over provocative online behaviour.
Police and local leaders have urged citizens to avoid rumor-mongering and maintain peace while the investigation proceeds.
