Patna, 7th May: In a major expansion of the Bihar NDA government, Nishant Kumar, son of former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, and 31 others were sworn in as ministers on Thursday at a ceremony held at Gandhi Maidan.
Governor Syed Ata Hasnain administered the oath of office to the ministers representing all five constituents of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
The cabinet expansion comes weeks after Nitish Kumar resigned as Chief Minister following his election to the Rajya Sabha. He was succeeded by Samrat Choudhary, who became the first BJP leader to head a government in Bihar.
Several leaders from the previous Nitish Kumar cabinet retained positions in the new government. Among those inducted were Vijay Kumar Sinha, Dilip Jaiswal, Nitish Mishra, Ashok Choudhary and Leshi Singh.
The JD(U) secured 15 berths in the cabinet, including Deputy Chief Ministers Vijay Kumar Choudhary and Bijendra Prasad Yadav.
The BJP inducted several senior leaders, including Ram Kripal Yadav and Shreyasi Singh.
Allies of the NDA were also represented in the cabinet. Chirag Paswan’s Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) inducted Sanjay Kumar Paswan and Sanjay Kumar Singh, while Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) leader Jitan Ram Manjhi’s son Santosh Kumar Suman and Rashtriya Lok Morcha chief Upendra Kushwaha’s son Deepak Prakash were also sworn in.
The cabinet formation is being viewed as a key step in consolidating the NDA government under Samrat Choudhary’s leadership ahead of upcoming political challenges in the state.
