New Delhi, 7th May: The Delhi Police has dismantled a four-member syndicate involved in manufacturing and distributing counterfeit life-saving drugs, exposing a major public health threat.
The gang allegedly produced fake medicines used for treating critical illnesses such as cancer and liver diseases, distributing them across multiple states. The operation was led by Manoj Kumar Mishra, who turned to illegal pharmaceutical activity after his business collapsed during the pandemic.
Operating under the front “Unitel Pharma,” the group used advanced machinery to create packaging closely resembling genuine brands, making detection difficult for both pharmacists and patients.
Investigations revealed a serious breach in the healthcare supply chain, with accused Vikram Singh and Watan Saini allegedly diverting genuine medicines from the Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) into the illegal network. Another accused, Raju Mishra, was part of the manufacturing setup.
During raids, police recovered counterfeit medicines and equipment valued at around ₹10 crore, including more than 90,000 capsules, packaging units and documents detailing the network’s operations.
Officials said efforts are underway to trace the distribution chain and identify affected regions, with more revelations expected during further investigation.
