New Delhi, 16th May: Army Chief Upendra Dwivedi on Saturday delivered a sharp warning to Pakistan, saying Islamabad must decide whether it wants to remain “part of geography or history” if it continues to harbour terrorists and operate against India.
Speaking during an interactive session titled ‘Sena Samwad’ hosted by Uniform Unveiled at the Manekshaw Centre, the Army Chief was asked how the Indian Army would respond if circumstances similar to those leading to Operation Sindoor emerged again.
“If Pakistan continues to harbour terrorists and operate against India, then they have to decide whether they want to be part of geography or history or not,” General Dwivedi said.
The remarks came days after India marked the first anniversary of Operation Sindoor, launched in May last year following the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam.
Under Operation Sindoor, Indian forces carried out precision strikes on terror infrastructure located in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in retaliation for the attack.
The operation later escalated into military exchanges between the two nuclear-armed neighbours after Pakistan launched offensives against India, prompting counter-offensives by Indian forces.
The conflict lasted nearly 88 hours before both sides reached an understanding on the evening of May 10 last year.
General Dwivedi’s remarks were seen as a reaffirmation of India’s zero-tolerance approach towards cross-border terrorism and its willingness to respond strongly to terror threats.
The Army Chief did not elaborate further on possible future military responses but stressed India’s position against state support to terrorism.
