Chennai, 19th May: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Tuesday warned Vijay, Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu and leader of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, that it may reconsider support to the ruling coalition if the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam is included in the alliance.
The CPM, an ally of the TVK-led government in Tamil Nadu, said bringing any faction of the AIADMK into the ruling coalition would go against the people’s mandate.
According to the Left party, voters in Tamil Nadu had rejected both the DMK and AIADMK, and any alliance with the AIADMK would contradict the promise of clean governance made by the TVK.
The CPM also stated that the inclusion of the AIADMK in the coalition would be politically unacceptable for its support base.
“We support TVK because Tamil Nadu is not ready for another election and we do not want the BJP to make a rear entry through Governor’s rule,” the party said in its statement.
The remarks come amid growing political speculation over possible alliance realignments in the state.
The warning from the CPM is expected to add pressure on the ruling coalition as parties begin strategising for future political equations in Tamil Nadu.
